I have a personal lifestyle blog called Deconstruct the Girl, which can be found at www.deconstructthegirl.com.
About this Blog:
Welcome to Deconstruct the Girl. We live in a fast paced world, where other people’s expectations, long work hours and relationship obligations play so steadily in the back of ours minds that they can begin to define us. The goal of this blog is to push the pause button on life and be able to evaluate the many parts of what makes us each unique.
The title “deconstruct the girl” came about because the definition of to deconstruct, “to take apart or examine in order to reveal the basis of,” seemed like the perfect verb to describe my intentions for this blog. I want to dismantle and examine the many aspects of my life in an attempt to live in a fuller and more satisfying way, hopefully growing as a person who is better able to recognize the things that truly make me happy. Also, to deconstruct something in literature is “to analyze a text in order to show that there is no fixed meaning within the text but that the meaning is created each time in the act of reading.” Like the literary theory of deconstruction, who I am as a person is never static but constantly changing, evolving …. Sometimes it just takes a purposeful action, or blog, to be reminded of that.
For the latter part of the title I chose to use the word “girl” because I think it is important to be reminded of childhood and how open and fearless we are as people during that time. When we are children, our biggest job is to find out who we are as people and develop dreams that can help us attain those visions. As we get older, that job can shift from discovering what we want for ourselves to figuring out what people want from us. That seems like a shame because our dreams are what make us who we are and striving to find ourselves through those dreams does not seem like a job that should have an expiration date. I want to always be reminded of the unrestricted and unlimited feelings of childhood, tap into them and have a constant reminder that anything in life is possible as long as I keep pushing toward my goals.
The way this blog is organized is in the vain of a balanced life worksheet. There will be five broad categories focused on and examined weekly. These categories I believe are wide-ranging, enabling increased awareness about one’s quality-of-life satisfaction. The schedule will be as follows: Monday – Fashion & Beauty, Tuesday – Health & Fitness, Wednesday – Career & Professional Development, Thursday – Friends, Family & Relationships, and Friday – Creativity, Inspiration & Spirituality. Weekends will be free for alls!
